Advanced oxidation processes for wastewater treatment

What Are Advanced Oxidation Processes for Effective Wastewater Treatment?

Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are particular treatment mechanisms that use extremely strong chemicals to rid wastewater of pollutants. They produce super-reactive substances that can degrade the pollutants in the water. Think of it as if you were using a super hero in a movie to beat the bad guys; AOPs are much like the superheros that kill bad stuff in your water. For instance, when we employ ozone or hydrogen peroxide in these processes they may attack and kill nasty chemicals that can damage our environment. This matters because some pollutants are resistant to sewage wastewater treatment. “From their environment they can kind of stay dormant within the water and be resistant to” normal treatment, she added. In the case of AOPs, you can turn these problematic molecules into less-harmful ones that can then be more easily cleaned up.
